Lecture 47 - Angular Momentum Operator and its Eigenfunctions

This lecture discusses the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues for the angular momentum operator. We explain that wavefunctions cannot be simultaneously the eigenfunctions of all three components of the angular momentum and therefore only one component - taken to be the z component - of the angular momentum and its magnitude is specified. We discuss the eigenfunctions for l = 0.
