5.111 Principles of Chemical Science
5.111 Principles of Chemical Science (Fall 2014, MIT OCW). Instructor: Professor Catherine Drennan. This course provides an introduction to the chemistry of biological, inorganic, and organic molecules. The emphasis is on basic principles of atomic and molecular electronic structure, thermodynamics, acid-base and redox equilibria, chemical kinetics, and catalysis. One year of high school chemistry is the expected background for this freshman-level course.
Lecture 21 - Acid-Base Equilibrium: Is MIT Water Safe to Drink? If the pH of water was 2, would you drink it? What about if the water had a pH of 11? The lecture introduces the concept of pH and we measure the pH of various common solutions.
