Sudden Death in the Young: A Terrible Waste. Sudden death in the young is more common than you think, and is, as my own family knows only too well, an appalling injustice in terms of lost life and potential. This lecture considers the causes of sudden death, its impact on families, the difficulties of carrying out research, and some of the legal and social obstacles to discovering more.
Martin Elliott is Gresham Professor of Physic and Co-Medical Director at The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London (GOSH). He led the cardiorespiratory and thoracic transplant teams at GOSH for many years, and established, and is Director of the National Service for Severe Tracheal Disease in Children, the largest such service in the world.
