Physics 20B: Cosmology
Physics 20B: Cosmology (Winter 2015, UC Irvine). Instructor: Professor James Bullock. Cosmology is the study of the origin and evolution of the Universe itself - the totality of phenomena of time and space. Cosmology is the oldest science, and the "biggest" field of study that exists. By the end of this course, you will have tackled oldest questions in the Universe: Has the Universe always existed? Did time have a beginning? How did we come to believe that the Universe expands? What is a black hole?
During this course, you'll have the opportunity to study the cosmos from the modern perspective - what we know and what we're not sure about. We will discuss the historical context of how we came to believe what we believe and some of the important historical figures who shaped our modern understanding: Ptolemy, Newton, Einstein, Rubin etc.
