ESS 1: Introduction to Earth System Science (Fall 2013, UC Irvine). Instructor: Dr. Julie Ferguson. This course covers the origin and evolution of the Earth, its atmosphere, and oceans, from the perspective of biogeochemical cycles, energy use, and human impacts on the Earth system. Topics covered are: plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, atmosphere, clouds, winds, global circulation patterns, freshwater, oceans, history of life on Earth, the biosphere, human impacts on the Earth system, and climate change.
