The Transient Universe
Many disparate phenomena in both the local and the distant Universe have properties which are time-variable, and constant monitoring of the sky at all wavelengths is required to catch the occurrence of these events. Observations of the transient Universe cover all of modern astrophysics ? from variable stars to unusual and violent events such as gamma-ray bursts.
Carolin Susan Crawford is a British communicator of science, astrophysicist researcher, lecturer and academic based at the Institute of Astronomy and Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
